Tips on Choosing The Right
Retractable Awning |
The weather in Singapore changes a lot and is characterized by plenty of sun and
heat. This has made awnings popular. When looking for retractable awning, it is
important that you look for certain qualities. Retractable awnings are different
from fixed awnings as they can be retracted out of the way when they are not
needed. You can use it for hot and sunny days or even for rainy days and you can
set it up quickly when you need it. Singapore weather changes fast and
retractable awnings will provide shelter quickly and conveniently when you need
it.

When looking for a retractable awning there are those that do not need a
supporting vertical pole or rod. While there are those that you may need to
provide additional support for the covering. Ensure that if you will use an
awning with additional support, the rods are strong and can hold up the awning
without endangering you. It is always best to use steel supports as these are
steady and strong. When choosing a retractable awning, it is best to choose one
that is convenient and easy to use. There are awnings that are retracted
mechanically or automatically.
Mechanical awnings may use a lever or a hand crank to open and close the awning
when you need to while those automatically operated are easier and more
convenient to use. In most cases, mechanically operated awnings will be cheaper
as compared to automatically operated ones. The advantage of mechanical awnings
is that they can be operated even if there is no electrical power. Ensure that
if you go with an automatic retractable awing that it is safe.
Most retractable awnings have a motor in the tube which is what winds up the
awning fabric when it is retracted. The awning supports are designed to hold the
awning up and extend it when it is opened. When you need to retract the awning,
these supports will fold in and they will be tucked under the tube.
Unsafe awnings can snap and fall when retracting which can harm you. To avoid
this, go for awnings that are made of strong materials that are not likely to
snap and break especially in the face of Singapore winds. Also look out for
awnings that have safety features such as if the awning arms get broken, they
will not drop to the ground so they will not harm you or anyone else. You can
also go for awnings that have sensors that will automatically open and close the
awning depending on the weather. These sensors can be rain sensors or they can
be sun sensors and when the sun comes out or it starts to ran, the awning will
automatically open up. This is very convenient.
Most awnings are made of canvas, tarpaulin fabric, acrylic materials and
aluminum. There are also different colors and materials that you can choose
from. You may decide to choose a contrasting or complementing color of awning to
your house or building. There are plain colored designs, striped designs and
many others depending on what you like and prefer. The other thing to consider
before you get a retractable awning is the space that you have. This is because
you need at least six inches of space for the awning. The space should not be
obstructed or hindered by anything for example a light fixture, as this will
prevent the awning from opening or retracting as it should. In this case, you
may have to use special brackets. You also need to have ample height as you will
not be able to mount the awning if you do not have enough height. |
